DD and I went to another state yesterday, so that she could audition for a music scholarship. We ended up getting snowed in there, and had top stay at a hotel!
Anyway...we ventured out to find something to eat, and stopped at a Hallmark store. They had one of Samantha's tea sets left! I haven't seen these at Hallmark stores in a long time. So I grabbed it. I'm not sure I will keep it, though. DD collects antique children's tea sets, and I like to display them in my kitchen. So, Samantha's doesn't really fit in. But I HAD to get it....LOL
Anyway! DD's audition was fantastic. I was a little bit afraid that she would get nervous, and lose her cool. That would have been a disaster. But...she did a lovely job. Some of the best I've heard from her. Sometimes, she holds back a little bit, because she doesn't want people to think she's showing off...which drives me nuts! Well....she did not hold back! She really gave them a show.
They were moving the people in and out of the audition room, very quickly. When one person was done, they would open the door, and usher that person out, as they were sending another one in. When DD got done, they opened the door for her, but stopped the next person from coming in. They said they needed to have a discussion. When we left, they were still talking about her! So, who knows....
I'm really excited for her. I swear...when she performs, she goes into another world. It's like in the movie, For Love of the Game. Kevin Costner plays a baseball pitcher. Everytime he pitches, he tells himself to "clear the mechanism". I swear...that what she does. She has huge dreams, and I don't know if she will reach them, but boy...is this ever fun.
Sorry...went off track....

I enjoyed reading your post about your daughter's audition. I'm a musician and I remember my audition days. I'm in grad school now and on Fridays starting next week we have auditions at the school and I get to show some of the audtion kids around. I'm sure she did wonderful!

Ashley! Do you sing, or play and instrument(s), or both? My DD is planning on Grad school, of course. It was really fun. It's interesting, because I am NOT pushing her into any of this. In fact....I tried to talk her out of it! But since she really wants to do it, we are giving her our full support. When people ask me what she is planning to major in, and I tell them Vocal Performance, they just stare at me. I think it's hilarious. People who know her, just ask me if she is going to major in music. They're the ones that understand....

I can't sing but I play the harp. It is my major. I am getting the grad degree because I would like to teach it some day at a university perhaps. Other than that I just enjoy playing for my own enjoyment. It keeps me very busy.

How exciting! You must be very proud. I love the "Clear the Mechanism" reference. I use it in my math class as "clear the fraction" - I know us math people are wierd but anything to help them remember. Keep us posted on your DD.

Thank you, everyone. I know I sounded like I was bragging, and I really don't mean to. I am just so excited for her!
I still can't believe she has the "guts" to do what she's doing. She actually discussed a career in opera with the people at the college. They have an opera star in residense there, and they said that they can get her the right connections. Sometimes I wish she'd meet some nice young man, get married, and live down the road from me. It's kind of scarey to think of her being out on her own, and trying to break into the music world. Her voice teacher is as excited as the rest of us.
Ginger...she is planning to take her masters, so she has the option to teach in a university as well. And the harp! I have always wanted to play the harp. It's such a beautiful instrument.

Jenny,
It doesn't sound like you are bragging - just happy and proud of your daughter. She sounds very talented. You were probably more nervous than her, LOL. That is the blessing/curse of motherhood!

How nice that you could give your daughter voice lessons for so long! She must have gotten her talent from her Mama.

Well...we used to have almost the same voice, but now she has surpassed me...and by a lot. I don't have the range I used to have...and she has an unbelievable range. I'm just really picky, and have to have every little detail perfect. When it comes to music, anyway. Luckily, she doesn't get offended by it! LOL!!!!
Hey...do you have the Samantha Tea set? I thought you said you did. Did you keep it?
